COR13 is now an avid supporter of Vanilla OpenSource forum software. Vanilla one of the best online forum programs around and was created by Lussomo, an Open Source organization started by Mark O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan originally intended Lussomo to be a secret web forum for programmers and designers in the late 90’s but has since opened it up for the world at large. Vanilla has many features and flexibilites that trump its competitors (if you can say there are competitors in the Open Source world). For one it is very nice to look at… not necessarily eye candy, but definately not bulky like SMF. The interface and navigation is very intuitive for both users and administrators. COR13 has recently added a forum as part of Highways to Zion. You can join the discussions Here If you prefer not to register, you can browse the discussions by logging in with username: ‘guest’ and password: ‘guest’.
Forums can be a great addition to church or organizational websites. They can provide on-going community discussions in between services or make a space for committees to discuss the mundane things that can sometimes take up all the time in the actual meeting. You can make sections that are only accessible to certain members (i.e. staff or different small groups) and block or restrain members who are disrespectful to the other users. All in all forums aren’t that bad, and Vanilla is definately the way to go.
